Guide what's next for our pools and indoor sports facilities
We’re developing 20-year Aquatic and Indoor Sport Strategy to make sure our pools and sports centres can meet the needs of our growing community, now and into the future.
We know these places are highly valued by our community and contribute to a safe, healthy and connected community. A long-term strategy will guide how we can manage community needs and demand, safety, accessibility and participation in a sustainable way. We’d like to hear from you about how you use our pools, leisure and indoor sports centres, what you love about them and where you would like to see improvement.
What the strategy will do
- Plan for the growth in demand and make sure our facilities meet the needs of our community in the future
- Assess the conditions of our facilities so we know what needs fixing, replacing or adding to, to ensure they meet industry standards
- Ensure participation in sports and recreation are accessible and welcoming to everyone
- Support long term decision making to keep facilities sustainable and beneficial for the community
What the strategy covers
- Nine ocean rock pools
- Eight supervised community pools
- Two leisure and indoor sports centres - Beaton Park and Lakeside
- Two indoor sports centres - Beaton Park Snakepit and Berkeley Indoor Sports Centre

What happens next?
We're starting this conversation with our community over the summer period to catch people who are using our facilities or just out and about. This survey is to get an understanding of who our users are, how they use our facilities and what they want to see in the future. Once we have some feedback from the community, we'll check to see if there's any information gaps before we write the Draft Aquatics and Indoor Sport Strategy. There will be another chance for you to share your thoughts on the draft strategy to make sure we're on the right track before we adopt the 20-year plan.
