Why are we building these bike tracks?

Our community have told us it’s important that we provide more cycling facilities for families and young people to enjoy. We’d like to hear from local families and young people about how we can create bike tracks that young people and families in the local area can use, without damaging the surrounding natural environment.

Where will the bike track be built?

    1. Mailbag Hollow, Bulli – north-eastern area, towards Slacky Creek section of park. We’re aiming to position the bike track around the existing trees.
    2. Bulli Park, Bulli – area in western section of park. We’re aiming to position the track in the existing shaded area with return tracks to get back to the top of the hill.
    3. Ocean Park Reserve, Woonona – area south of Ocean Park. We’re aiming to put the bike track on the southern side of Collins creek between Carrington Street and the shared path.

How did you choose the three sites?

We looked at lots of different open spaces in Bulli and Woonona. We carried out safety audits and considered things like visibility across the area, different users, traffic and access to nearby facilities when we were deciding on sites for a bike track. We need help from residents to pick the space as we value our community’s local knowledge.

What will the track look like?

The design of the track will depend on the site we choose. Each site is different and will provide track features that complement the site.

We do know that the track will be a dirt track and will be designed for different skill levels. We’ve heard that it’s important for bike tracks to have features for both beginner and advanced riders and we will use this to inform the track design.

Will you need to remove any trees to build the track?

No. We will not need to remove any trees at the proposed sites to build the bike track.

After we decide where the track will be built, we will develop a concept design for the site and come back to the community for feedback.
