In 2016 ‘A City for People’, our vision for Wollongong City Centre was endorsed. A key recommendation was to test planning policy to ensure it aligned with delivering the City Centre vision – a City Centre that is people-orientated, sustainable and liveable.

We have been working hard, undertaking detailed urban design, economic and planning analysis to test the planning controls. This work comes together in the Wollongong City Centre Urban Design Framework.

The recommendations presented in the Urban Design Framework will be the basis for drafting changes to City Centre planning controls. To inform this process, we are sharing the

Comments received will inform the refinement of draft planning controls (a renewed Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan).

Understanding the Urban Design Framework

Parts 1 & 2 of the Urban Design Framework set out an introduction and an analysis. It clearly identifies where testing reveals that policy is not aligned with the vision of A City for People.

Part 3 of the Urban Design Framework sets out the recommendations across land use, built form and public domain and connections. It presents a structure plan and precinct visions.
