FAQs
Why are you seeking comments on the community centre now?
During the 2019 engagement for the Helensburgh Town Centre, many in the community supported the suggestion of integrating the library and community centre. Having previously undertaken community engagement regarding a new library, we are now considering the future of our community centre and the possibilities associated with integrating the delivery of library and community services. So, while we are engaging with you about the Helensburgh Town Centre Plan and the Streetscape Masterplan, we are taking the opportunity to also ask about what you need and want from a community facility.
The future of our library and community spaces and how these facilities might relate to the bigger town centre picture, are important elements in thinking about the future of our town centre.
What will happen to the existing centre?
It is early in our project, so we are unable to say what will happen to the existing Helensburgh Community Centre building. We are investigating possible options and we'll come back to the community to discuss these.
Where will the new community centre be located?
Council will be seeking to locate our library and community facilities where there is an opportunity to activate and contribute to the life of the town centre. We are still investigating this option, so we cannot say at this point where the facility will be located.
What services will the new community centre provide?
We anticipate that a new community centre would continue to deliver the same types of services and activities as our existing facility offers. However, there is an opportunity now for you and other members of the community, to have your say on what services you would like to see provided by a community centre, for the people of Helensburgh and surrounding suburbs.
What will happen with my comments?
Council will review all comments from the community. This feedback will be used to inform the next steps in the process. There will be further opportunities to provide feedback as planning for this facility progresses.
