Wilsons Creek Road / Parkes Road has relatively high levels of pedestrian traffic connecting the Helensburgh community to the train line and Helensburgh Station.
The intersection of Wilsons Creek Road, Parkes Street and Tunnel Road forces pedestrians to cross a relatively long width of road whilst viewing several directions at the one-time during crossing. The current crossing design provides little protection for pedestrians.
The pedestrian upgrade works at this location will involve the installation of a pedestrian refuge to improve pedestrian safety. Pedestrians will be able to 'break' their crossing movements into two sections subsequently reducing crossing length. The pedestrian refuge will also provide pedestrian protection in the middle of the road.
We are proposing
Improvements to the footpath along Wilsons Creek Road.
Installing a new pedestrian refuge island at the intersection of Tunnel Road and Parkes Street.
