Draft Climate Change Mitigation Action Plan
Consultation has concluded
Council has developed a Draft Climate Change Mitigation Plan 2020-2022 in a commitment to reduce emissions from Council operations and for the City of Wollongong to move towards becoming a low emissions city.
In 2019 Council unanimously adopted targets of net zero emissions by 2030 for Council operations and net zero emissions by 2050 for the City of Wollongong.
The actions in this Plan either directly reduce Council’s own emissions or are actions to support the community to reduce their emissions. The Plan focuses on establishing partnerships, undertaking research and pilot projects within the community, and implementing key projects to reduce Council’s emissions over the next two years.
This Plan is our first of many steps to reduce emissions - to find out more read the draft Plan and FAQs.
Our online Q and A will be available until 31st July for you to ask questions.
This Plan focuses on climate change mitigation only by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A separate ‘Adaptation’ plan will be prepared to address adapting to any unavoidable impacts of climate change as they occur.
