Community safety is something we create together. It relies on strong partnerships between Council, local residents, NSW Police, community groups, local businesses and many other organisations across all levels of government. Our draft Community Safety Plan outlines how Council will continue to support crime prevention and community wellbeing over the next five years.

The draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031 sets out a five‑year program of actions based on local crime data, emerging trends and what we’ve heard directly from the community. It focuses on continued collaboration with key partners, including government agencies, service providers, community organisations and residents. Building on previous plans, it sets out actions to strengthen community wellbeing, reduce opportunities for crime and support a coordinated response to our community’s changing needs.

The draft Plan also reinforces Council’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and resilient community, recognising that safety is essential to creating a vibrant and liveable city.

How was the draft Plan developed?

The draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031 was shaped by community feedback gathered through surveys, workshops and pop‑up events, along with input from local organisations and NSW Police. Council also reviewed the current Plan, analysed NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) crime data and consulted with key Council teams to identify priorities and guide future actions.

Priorities of the draft Plan:

The draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031 focuses on improving safety across three areas:

  • People (supporting community wellbeing and crime prevention),
  • Place (designing safer, cleaner and more welcoming public spaces) and
  • Property (reducing theft, vandalism and fraud).

Each area includes practical actions that Council and partners will deliver between 2026 and 2031.

The draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031 is on exhibition from 25 March to 3 May 2026 and can be viewed:

  • Online via the Document Library.
  • From 1 April 2026, at all Wollongong City Library branches during opening hours and at Council’s Customer Service Centre, Ground Floor Administration Building, 41 Burelli Street Wollongong, between 9am and 5pm weekdays.
