FAQs
- Keep improving the area by continuing the work set out in the conceptual 2015 Hill 60 Landscape Master Plan as it is updated by the more current approvals to safeguard the significance of the area. Council completed the accessible viewing area in December 2024 as part of implementing the Landscape Masterplan with those obtained more current approvals. The Appendix document include a lot of information on how Council listened to the community to shape the project work
- Keep current activities going – the land will continue to be used as it is now.
- Allow for new uses in the future – Council may consider new leases or licences for activities or developments that fit within the Plan of Management requirements. These would go through separate approval processes.
- Use community land categories to guide decisions – Different parts of the reserve are given different community land categories to help manage them and decide what can happen there in the future:
- Area of Cultural Significance (brown area) applies to most of the reserve. This highlights its importance to Aboriginal culture and history. It also marks the WWII era structures as part of the significance of the area.
- Park (green area): this part is for general public recreation and open space and is where the conceptual 2015 Landscape Masterplan proposes a number of improvements – like the accessible viewing area work completed in 2024 .
- General Community Use (purple area): this is where the Marine Rescue Port Kembla Service operates. The Plan of Management identifies Marine Rescue as a permissible use and development under this community land category so granting a future licence for this important service is permissible under the plan too.

A report will be prepared for Council detailing what was heard and present recommendations on final amendments.
