What works are planned?

Extending Baan Baan Street between Station Street and Osborne Street, Dapto will improve traffic flow and improve connections to bus and rail transport. The road extension will provide a two-way road with a traffic lane and a parking lane in each direction. Please see the attached Concept Plan.

Two new mountable roundabouts (bus accessible) will be installed at either end of the new section of road. A footpath and kerb and guttering will be constructed along both sides of the road. This will promote walking within the town centre and encourage the use of public transport. Access ramps and street lighting have also been included in the concept plan.

The proposed works form part of the West Dapto Access Strategy.  This work is also consistent with future planning for the town centre which focusses on reducing traffic congestion and improving pedestrian and cycle access within the town centre.

    When will the work start?

Construction is expected to commence in mid-2017. Hours of construction will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays. The work will take approximately 16 weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions.

Will there be any changes to the Sydney Trains commuter car park?

The current carpark entry will remain in place and commuters will be able to use the carpark during construction. Commuters entering the carpark from the north will be able to turn right into the carpark.

There are no plans to alter the shared path on the western side of Station Street. There will be some temporary disruptions to shared path access while the works are underway.

    How will I be affected?

There may be short periods where local services are interrupted during construction; e.g. water, electricity, gas, phone services.

Some on-street parking will need to be removed to accommodate the new traffic lanes but additional on-street parking will be provided as part of the project. Residents who are impacted by construction have been informed of the proposed changes and advised of any temporary access arrangements.

A tree at both ends of the proposed extension will be removed. All other existing trees will be retained. Landscaping is included as part of the road extension. It has been designed to soften the urban environment and make walking links more attractive and comfortable.

Will there be any changes to access during the work?

Osborne Street and Station Street will remain open to traffic. There will be some temporary single lane closures required during the proposed work.

Bike and pedestrian access on the existing shared path along Station Street will be temporarily rerouted during construction. Signage will be in place to advise of the temporary access arrangements.

Access to the Dapto Railway Station will be maintained throughout the works. Traffic management will be in place during construction.
