Consultation has concluded
The Helensburgh Town Centre Plan and the Helensburgh Streetscape Masterplan were developed through extensive engagement in 2019 and the drafts for both plans were exhibited to the community for comment in the engagement conducted through May and June 2020. The results of the community engagement were then considered before the plans were finalised in September 2020.
At its meeting on Monday 26 October Council adopted both plans and the priority staging of the Streetscape Masterplan. The prioritised streetscape upgrades in Walker and Parkes St as outlined within the adopted Town Centre Plan and Streetscape Masterplan will be done in two stages:
Stage 1 focusses on civil works to deliver a significant improvement for pedestrians at the Parkes/Walker Streets roundabout, including the installation of a new pedestrian crossing on Parkes Street. Comment from the 2020 engagement was considered in the detailed design for Stage 1.
Stage 2 of the streetscape upgrades represents further works for the town centre, primarily in Walker St, and will include further collaboration with the community in order to deliver the best possible results.
We are now informing the community that construction of Stage 1 and engagement for some of the design components of Stage 2 will begin early in the first half of 2021.
During Stage 1 construction you will see a construction work crew, their vehicles and equipment in the area. The work crew will aim to minimise disruption, however there may be some traffic control requirements at times. We’ll contact you before we start to let you know what dates we’ll be onsite.
The Helensburgh Streetscape Stage 1 Plan and an outline of comments from the community and how this was considered in the You Said We Did document are included in the Documents section on this page.
Thanks for working with us on Helensburgh’s bright future.
