A Proposed Detention Basin for Managing Flood Risk in Fairy Meadow
Consultation has concluded
As part of its commitment to managing flood and stormwater risks in our region, Wollongong City Council is working on a proposed concept design for the McMahon Street Detention Basin, located in the Cabbage Tree Creek catchment in Fairy Meadow.
Working with specialist technical consultants, we’ve looked at a number of possible ways to build a detention basin at this site. The design we’re planning keeps the existing trees, while reducing flood impacts on properties and roads downstream.
We’re inviting residents and property owners in the area to come along to an information session to learn more about the flood risks in this area, the studies that inform how we plan for these risks and the proposed detention basin.
Where: Mount Ousley Public School Hall,
31 McGrath St, Fairy Meadow
When: Tuesday 12 March 2019, 4:00pm – 6:00pm
We’d also like to find out what you value about this area and if you currently use it for any activities, e.g. walking, so that this can be considered as part of the design. Floodplain management engineers who are working on the design will be on hand at the information session to explain the proposal and answer your questions.
