of Wollongong Hospital!

By CM: Wollongong hospital is currently saving my sister's life and I love that about Wollongong!

My sister (Vin) to save he identity, has a very Rare 1 in a Million Disorder called Stiff Person's Syndrome. Without being too technical, it's a disorder that means every nerve and muscle in her body is tortured without warning, to create horrendous Spasms ,that grip her muscles and do not let go until they are ready. The serious torturous pain, can last for hours and her body becomes as if it is fused to the floor; ( this the stiff, in Stiff Person's Syndrome.)
In Wollongong hospital, there are not 1 but 2 ,$60k machines and 3 Highly Trained Specialist Nurses that operate the machines. The nurses and the machines, perform life saving medical treatment, every day, by doing such treatment as my sister is receiving, by drawing Plasma out of her blood ( 5lts at a time) and replacing her blood, with Saline and other factors so her antibodies,( the bad cells in the Plasma) do not get a chance to grab hold and make her Disorder even more debilitating than it already is.

In Wollongong, my sister can get regular treatment to give her some limited quality of life and this is a hugh win, as there are no other trained staff and life saving machines that are in a 300km radius..this means they are too far away for her to travel to save her life!

I am greatful to live in the Illawarra and Greatful to Wollongong hospital and its Apherisis staff to give me time with my sister, that is free from sever muscle spasms, to enjoy every day moments that others take for granted. To us each day without Spasms is a WIN!
