Pioneers Rest Park Upgrades
We’re planning upgrades to Pioneers Rest Park on the corner of Kembla and Bank Streets in Wollongong, to make sure the park is accessible for everyone.
Many people from diverse backgrounds with varying abilities visit Pioneers Rest Park to appreciate its historical significance and pleasant surrounds.
To make sure that we include everyone as best as possible we are planning to include upgrades to the park to meet Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements. This will make the park more usable and enjoyable for everyone.
The proposed upgrades will include:
- Widening paths
- Upgraded entry to the park.
- All new seating, furniture and water bubbler compliant with DDA requirements
- New equal access parking
- New bin enclosures
We’ll use Australian Blue Stone to create a cobblestone appearance to the paths and historic-styled park furniture to enhance the significance of the site.
All trees will be preserved, and the interpretive signs will describe the history of the site and provide a list of known burials.
With greater use by the elderly and people with disability, it is essential that this popular park is accessible for everyone.
