Let's talk about play!
We’re developing a new Playspace Strategy to guide how playspaces are planned, designed and managed across the Wollongong Local Government Area for the next 20 years. We’re working with 180 Sport & Leisure Solutions to shape this next Playspace Strategy with our community, and we want your input.
Why we’re doing this
We currently manage around 149 playspaces. With our population growing and communities evolving, we want to take a minute to consider how we deliver play opportunities that are fun, inclusive, safe and accessible for everyone now and into the future.
The revised Playspace Strategy will help us:
- Understand community needs and aspirations for play
- Plan for future growth, especially in areas like West Dapto
- Improve the quality, location and design of play spaces
- Make sure our investments deliver the best value and outcomes
What we’re wanting to find out from our community
We’re asking for your feedback to help shape the strategy. Your ideas, experiences and suggestions will directly influence how we plan playspaces across the city. Whether you're a parent, carer, young person, older resident, park user or just passionate about play, we’re keen to understand what you think of our offerings so far and what we could consider play to look like for this generation and the next.
Want to be involved?
- Complete the online survey.
You can also have a chat with staff at some of our events.
- Making Waves at Thirroul - Friday 19 December 2025 4-7pm
We'll be scheduling more pop-up dates over summer, these will be posted on our engagement page and our event calendar as they are confirmed.
Please provide your feedback by 28 January 2026.
Please note, any submissions become public documents and may be viewed by other persons on request. Please read Council's Privacy Policy before submitting your feedback.
What happens next?
This part of the project is all about learning about our community and how you interact with our playspaces. Once we know a bit more about what you like, don't like and what might need improving, we will check if there's any gaps in what we learn. From there we will write the Draft Play Strategy and then seek your feedback again to make sure we got it right.
