The Port Kembla Town Centre Façade Program was funded under the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund (PKCIF) and will improve the appearance of the streetscape by activating street frontages whilst celebrating the heritage and character of the Town Centre.

Under the program, local business and landowners were encouraged to upgrade their facades through a matched financial incentive (up to a maximum of $20,000). Applications for the program opened on 20 April 2017 and closed on 18 May 2017.

The Panel has assessed all applications in accordance with the relevant assessment criteria below.

  • The extent to which the project is consistent with the recommendations of the Audit Recommendations Report and the Design Guide (50%)
  • The extent to which the proposal contributes to the broader heritage conservation and character of the Port Kembla Town Centre (15%)
  • The extent to which the project presents a shopfront that is physically and visually linked to the street, encouraging more pedestrian activity (10%)
  • The extent to which the proposal contributes to a cluster of eligible properties committing to undertaking improvements (20%)
  • The extent to which the application supports local small businesses (5%)

The Assessment Panel has recommended applications considered suitable for funding as shown in the table below. Please be aware this is a recommendation only, pending confirmed quotations, and may be subject to change.

Under section 356 of the Local Government Act 1993, Council is required to give 28 days’ public notice before funding is endorsed. As such, we are required to place the details of recommended funding recipients on public exhibition from Saturday 17 June 2017 until Saturday 15 July 2017. Following this, all applications for funding will be considered by Council at the meeting of 31 July 2017.
