At its most simple, public art is art made for public spaces such as parks, on buildings, streets and any other areas that the public use. It can be permanent, site-specific or temporary, it can take many forms such as sculpture, painting, video, light or sound installations. Public art can transform a space, spark conversations and enrich a community.

Our approach to public art should reflect and celebrate our artistic, social and cultural landscape while considering our community’s needs. We've developed a Draft Public Art Strategy 2022-2032 to guide:

• The vision and approach for public art in Wollongong
• Why and how we are involved in public art, and
• What we gain as a community by supporting it.

The draft Strategy identifies four key areas that will underpin the actions for delivery over the next 10 years. These are

• Engagement and experience
• Place
• Artform and materiality
• Infrastructure and planning
