Draft Sportsgrounds and Sporting Facilities Strategy 2023 - 2027
Consultation has concluded
We know that being able to play sports, and being active outdoors is really important to our community. We’ve developed a Draft Sportsgrounds and Sporting Facilities Strategy that aims to address the current and future needs of our sporting and active communities.
The Strategy sets out how we will continue to support community sport in all its diversity and create more opportunities for other active recreation across the Wollongong Local Government Area (LGA). The overall vision of this Strategy is to:
Provide a diverse range of sustainable, functional infrastructure that supports active, safe and inclusive participation in sport and recreation across the city.
The development of the Strategy has been guided by five Principles which the community told us were important to them. These are
- Inclusive and accessible
- Participation
- Safe
- Partnerships and collaboration
- Sustainable
It also clearly identifies the 10 focus areas which Council will prioritise over the next several years, including infrastructure, female participation, and catering for non-structured or emerging sports. The Key Focus Areas are supported by Actions which will contribute to achieving the Strategy’s vision, and help address the current and future sporting demands of our community. Supported actions will be in our Delivery Program and Operational Plan for resourcing and implementation.
