- the idea of after-hours access to the library.
Results
We received 174 submissions via the online feedback form, hard copy feedback form and email.
Most people who provided submissions were regular visitors to Unanderra Library and many expressed their appreciation for its staff and services. There was general support for opening the library at 9.30am on weekdays due to convenience, consistency across libraries and opportunities for children’s programs. Several were concerned with perceived impacts to an existing group who currently use the library on Wednesday mornings when the library is closed. Some had concerns about library staff and requested that they be consulted or that no changes be made to opening hours.

Reactions to after-hours access were mixed with those opposed to the idea having a range of safety concerns. These included: personal safety concerns particularly at night; limited foot traffic/ passive surveillance around Unanderra Library; the potential for vandalism and theft. Alternative ideas were suggested including having staffed hours on specific evenings; trialling after-hours at a different library with better passive surveillance; and a book locker system for after-hours collection.

Those who were comfortable with after-hours access noted its potential convenience, particularly for students, workers, and carers of young children. This cohort was asked to provide their preferred times. The most popular days/times in order were:
- Weekday evenings from 5-9pm
- Saturday afternoon from 1-5pm
- Sunday afternoon from 1-5pm
- Sunday from 7am-1pm.
