What is Council planning at Western Suburbs Pool?
A vertical lift platform is planned to be installed at Western Suburbs Pool. The proposed platform is similar to the one installed at Corrimal Pool in 2015. The plan provides a picture of the proposed lift.
What will the works include?
To make way for the new lift we will need to undertake some work on the pool shell, access steps and the platform around the pool. A fence will also be built around the lift.
What is the proposed location of the lift?
The preferred location of the lift is the north western corner of the pool. This location is highlighted on the plan.
When will the work be undertaken?
It is anticipated works will be scheduled during winter 2016 when the pool is closed. This will help to minimise any disruption to the community.
Will general access be changed?
The community will still be able to access the pool from the all the current access points.
What other pools have access provisions?
There are currently five swimming pools in our area which have access provisions for people with mobility difficulties:
• Wollongong Continental Pools – ramp & hoist access
• Port Kembla Pool - ramp access
• Beaton Park Indoor Pool - hoist access
• Corrimal Pool - access platform
• Dapto Pool - access platform
Accessible car parking spaces, toilets and easy access change rooms are available at each of the pools listed.
