People sitting, standing, walking and relaxing in proposed village square in Wiseman Park.

We're making plans for upgrades in Gwynneville, including Wiseman Park, Gipps Road, Throsby Drive and Foley Street. The proposed plans follow on from the Keiraville - Gwynneville Access and Movement Study and the Fairy Creek Corridor Master Plan, finalised based on previous community engagement prior to, and including, 2017-2020. The Gwynneville Accces and Movement Map shows how these plans are coming together to connect Gwynneville to West Wollongong, the CBD and other nearby areas.

Wiseman Park and Gipps Road Upgrades

Check out the draft plans here

The draft Wiseman Park and Gipps Upgrade Plan includes new pathways, picnic furniture and a village square in Wiseman Park, along with a new raised pedestrian crossing on Gipps Rd and a shared user path (for walkers and riders) between the Foley St traffic lights and the Vickery St roundabout.

The upgrades will make it safer for people to cross Gipps Rd, provide more spaces for people to sit and relax in the area and make it easier and more accessible for people to walk and ride there. There’ll be better connections to amenities, the playground, exercise equipment and the school crossing on Vickery St, and the heritage memorial will be refurbished and moved to a more prominent position.

There will be some changes to car parking so the raised pedestrian crossing can be added to help people cross Gipps Rd safely. Importantly, the number of car parking spots available on Gipps Rd, between Vickery St and Foley St, will stay the same as it is now.

Throsby Drive Shared User Path

Check out the draft plans here

The draft Throsby Drive Shared User Path will make it easier and safer for walkers and riders to get between Gwynneville and the Wollongong CBD. This path is a key connector in the Wollongong Cycling network, being developed as part of the Wollongong Cycling Strategy 2030. The path will run along the southern side of the road, between the roundabouts at Foley St and the Princes Hwy (Flinders St). It will be on the road for some sections and off the road in other sections.

Foley Street Safety Upgrades

Plans have been revised and finalised, following previous community feedback. Check out the News feed below for an update on the Foley Street Safety Upgrades project.
