Consultation has concluded

Dog ownership is increasing and the community has said it wants more off-leash parks. Council wants to ensure that there are opportunities for the community to enjoy recreation with their dogs.

We are looking to create three new off-leash dog parks. We want to know what you think about the proposed locations and what type of equipment you would like to see in those spaces. It's also time to review our policy about dogs in recreational spaces. To view a map of the proposed leash-free dog park locations or the Policy, go to the Document Library.

The latest off leash dog park for our community has been completed, with the final touches on Reed Park Dog Park, Dapto finalised this week. The grassed park is around 2500 square metres and provides two fenced areas - one to cater for large dogs over 15 kilograms and another for small dogs. The dog-friendly spaces have tunnels for play, seating, dog waste bags and bins, and a water fountain with dog bowl to help quench any parched pooches.

There are some rules that apply to all of Council’s off-leash areas and the dog park:

    • Dogs must be under the control of someone aged 16 years or older. They must carry, and use, poo bags for any waste removal.
    • Dogs are not allowed in off-leash areas if they are a restricted breed or have been declared menacing or dangerous.

We ask that dog owners be courteous to other owners and animals, and remain in control of their dog while using all off-leash areas. Owners are responsible for their dog’s behaviour and cleaning up after them so that everyone can enjoy our facilities.

Thank you to all who shared their comments and ideas with us in 2018. Your feedback helped us to plan and create this new opportunity for dog owners to exercise their pets in a secure off-leash park.
