Consultation has concluded

Welcome to the Wollongong City Centre Access and Movement for People engagement site.

In 2016 we worked with the community to define a vision for Wollongong. We asked what you wanted for the city centre, how you would like it to be and how you would like to experience it.

This vision was described in the A City for People report. The message was clear, Wollongong wants to be an accessible, pedestrian-friendly city. What we heard from the community is that the City Centre needs to be a place where:

  • Streets prioritise walking and cycling
  • Public transport is the preferred way of accessing the city
  • Vehicle movements and car parking support city centre functions while prioritising pedestrian comfort

We now need to understand the issues in delivering this vision and to develop on-the-ground solutions that make the vision a reality.

We would like to know your experiences travelling in and around Wollongong City Centre and what your needs are being in the city streets or for travelling through them. We've provided three ways that you can provide your comments online. You can choose to complete one or all three methods.

Firstly, there's an interactive map where you can identify specific locations and make comment. You will be able to see comments from other members of the community and they will be able to see yours.

Secondly, there is a short survey where you can detail your experience and any issues.

Finally, there's an ideas page where you can share your suggestions for change.

There will also be an opportunity to ask council staff questions about access and movement issues at an information stand on Friday 6 March 2020, Crown Street Mall between 10am - 2pm.

In this first phase, we will use your comments to develop a draft strategy to improve access and movement in the City Centre. In the second phase of engagement later this year, we will be asking for your ideas and solutions to help finalise an Access and Movement Strategy for Wollongong City Centre.
