Consultation has concluded

Council’s Alcohol Free Zones (AFZs), located in the suburbs of Helensburgh, Thirroul, Corrimal, Wollongong, Dapto, Warrawong and Berkeley, are due to expire in September this year.

AFZs have a four-year term where for this period consumption of alcohol on roads and footpaths within the zone is strictly prohibited under the Local Government Act. Enforcement is by way of confiscation of alcohol by officers of the New South Wales Police Force.

Council is seeking feedback about each AFZ and the proposal for re-establishment of each zone for another four years. To help activate Wollongong City Centre it is proposed parts of this AFZ may be exempt from the AFZ for short periods of time for specific council approved events only.

Community members are invited to complete the survey below or written representations and/or objections are invited throughout June 2014 and can be forwarded to communitysafety@wollongong.nsw.gov.au or posted to the Community Safety Officer, Level 5, Wollongong City Council, Locked Bag 8821, Wollongong 2500.
