What is a Development Control Plan?

Development throughout Wollongong is regulated by a number of Council and State planning mechanisms, predominantly: Wollongong Local Environment Plan (LEP) 2009, NSW State Planning Policies, and the Wollongong Development Control Plan (DCP)  2009. The Wollongong DCP 2009 is a Council policy document specifying planning objectives and controls (e.g. setbacks, private open space, landscaping) to guide development permissible in accordance with the Wollongong LEP 2009.

What changes are proposed to the Wollongong DCP 2009?

The changes proposed affect Chapter D16 West Dapto Urban Release of the Wollongong DCP and relate to:

    • Section 14 introduces clear steps and target timeframes for the Neighbourhood Planning process.
    • Figure 17 “Defined Neighbourhoods” has been refined to improve the alignment of Neighbourhood Plan boundaries with water sub-catchments, ownership, topography, and constraints more accurately.
    • Minor additional clarity within Section 15.
    • Minor textual edits to improve the readability.

How can I access the proposed changes?
