Whether you’re a professional who trains daily, a cycling commuter or someone who just likes to get out for a ride with the family on a sunny day, Wollongong City Council wants to hear from you.

The draft City of Wollongong Bike Plan 2014-2018 is now on public exhibition and provides a blueprint for addressing a broad range of cycling issues to create a better experience for the growing number of riders in the Illawarra.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said the plan has been developed following extensive consultation with the community and Council’s Active Transport Reference Group. “We had more than a thousand individuals and groups share their views about the state of cycling in the city now and their ideas for improvements into the future. This information has allowed us to create what we believe is a comprehensive plan which considers the needs of bicycle users, pedestrians and motorists.”

The plan incorporates measures such as upgrading and expanding the current bicycle network to improve access to key destinations in the city, enhanced signage, linemarking and facility improvement as well as increased promotion of cycling information, events and education and awareness programs.

It also recommends investigation into the development of a mountain bike park.

The City of Wollongong Bike Plan 2014-2018 will be on public exhibition until 19 May 2014.
