Why does Council create a Community Safety Plan?

Council develops a Community Safety Plan to guide how we work with residents, NSW Police, community organisations and local services to prevent crime, improve feelings of safety and support the wellbeing of our community over the next five years. It helps us respond to local needs using data, community feedback and proven safety strategies.

What does the draft Community Safety Plan 2026-2031 aim to achieve?

The draft Plan aims to make our community feel safer and more confident by improving public spaces, strengthening partnerships, reducing opportunities for crime and supporting programs that promote wellbeing and connection.

How will Council deliver the actions in the draft Plan?

Council will work with NSW Police, community organisations and local services to deliver the actions over five years, regularly reviewing progress and adjusting our approach as community needs and crime trends change.

How will my feedback be used?

The project team will review all the feedback we heard from the community during the engagement period.

All feedback is important and is one factor in the decision-making process for Council. The graphic below shows some of the factors we consider in our decision making:

A circular diagram showing the factors that influence a decision. In the centre is the word "Decision", surrounded by nine labelled bubbles: Your feedback, Cost, Legislation, Council policies, Expert or technical advice, Social factors, Economic impact, Environmental impact, and Governance.

    What happens next?

The project team will consider all feedback received and the Draft Community Safety Plan may be updated.

A report will be prepared for Council detailing what was heard. The report and the final Plan will go to a future Council meeting seeking their endorsement.

Council will consider this report and provide a resolution on how to proceed.

Everyone who has given feedback will be notified of the date of the Council meeting and how to view these documents.
