Consultation has concluded
The draft Strategy for the
Future of Our Pools will guide how we plan, provide and manage our nine supervised
swimming pools and nine tidal rock pools across the LGA over the next 10 years. It
is driven by the vision: ‘Wollongong City is host to a variety of
highly-used, diverse and appealing aquatic recreational opportunities that meet
our community’s needs of today and their desires of tomorrow’.
We are focused on our pools
being attractive and well-utilised recreation destinations. In order to meet
our community’s contemporary aquatic recreational needs, we must consider a
fresh new strategic approach towards our pools to ensure they offer the
infrastructure and services which facilitate a more diverse range of leisure
activities.
This draft Strategy for the
Future of Our Pools 2014-24 has been developed with the help of lots of
feedback from our community over the past two years. We received great feedback
on our pools and tidal rock pools through the development of our Wollongong 2022 Community Strategic Plan, as well as continued feedback through our Community
Surveys.
To assist in the development of
this draft Strategy, in 2013 we engaged Strategic Leisure Group to undertake a
wide range of engagement activities with residents, staff, key stakeholders and
visitors, based on our nine supervised public swimming pools. In addition to this
body of work, in late 2013 / early 2014, we received valuable community
feedback on the importance of our public swimming pools, including tidal rock
pools, through the Securing Our Future Financial Sustainability Review.
We’d like to thank everyone who
has provided input so far and encourage you to help us make Wollongong a
better place for aquatic recreation by giving further feedback on this draft
strategy.
