Consultation has concluded

Council is reviewing the planning controls that apply to all industrial zoned land and uses.

We’re keen to hear from businesses in industrial precincts about their needs and ideas for improvement.

There are a number of different industrial precincts across the Wollongong local government area (LGA).

Some precincts, particularly those in and around the Port of Port Kembla, provide land for crucial operations in manufacturing, production, mining, freight and logistics which is significant to the State and National economy.

Others provide access to a diverse range of local services for residents of the LGA and the broader region, including car and smash repairs, trades and materials suppliers, vehicle and equipment hire and storage services.

Increasingly, industrial lands are also accommodating other businesses such as gyms, breweries, indoor recreational facilities and places of worship.

Industrial uses mainly occur on land zoned for Industrial uses. However, some industrial uses also occur in business zones. Sometimes these lands will be contained within a defined ‘business park’ or in a small cluster along a main road.

Council is reviewing the planning controls that apply to all industrial zoned land and uses. These controls exist in both our Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and our Development Control Plan (DCP) and include permissible uses, maximum heights, floor space ratios, minimum lot sizes, car-parking, landscaping and more.

We’re keen to hear from businesses in industrial precincts, and those running industrial businesses elsewhere, about their needs and ideas for improvement.

The information we collect from the survey will be used to inform our Industrial Lands Review. This Review will help us understand the current and future needs of Industrial precincts and uses. We’ll use this information to determine whether changes need to be made to our planning controls to enable these places to meet the future needs of our community.
