Lindsay Maynes Park Criterium Bicycle Track and Precinct Plan
Consultation has concluded
As part of Council’s commitment to improve and support cycling opportunities for everyone in the community, we've developed a design for a criterium track in Unanderra. The new criterium track will be built at Lindsay Maynes Park.
There has been an increase in people cycling for sport and recreation in Wollongong. Through the Wollongong Cycling Strategy 2030, we want to provide people with places to ride safely. We have also heard from the community that one of their cycling priorities was dedicated cycling infrastructure, separated from pedestrians and cars.
The criterium track will provide a safe and dedicated track for riders of all ages and abilities. It will be a 950m closed-loop course on asphalt road, built for cycling and suitable for other similar wheeled equipment such as roller blades or scooters. It will also provide a purpose-built facility for Wollongong to support and host bicycle racing events.
We have conducted research and worked with the local cycling community to come up with a draft design that meets both industry standards, and community needs.
The building of the track and other related works are part of the Lindsay Maynes Precinct Plan. A precinct plan provides a longer term vision for the space or area that is created for, and can guide what is built, planted or created in the space over several years. The building of the track will be the first stage implemented in this plan.
