Mount Keira Road Safety Upgrade
Consultation has concluded
Mount Keira Road forms part of a tourist drive that connects popular lookouts at Mount Keira and Mount Kembla. It is also a detour route providing access to Wollongong from the Hume Highway and Pacific Motorway via Picton Road and Clive Bissell Drive. The climb up Mount Keira is also a popular road cycling route.
As part of Council’s commitment to improving our roads and keeping them safe, we’re planning road safety upgrades along Mount Keira Road. We have completed a full safety audit of the road and planned a range of improvements that we will construct during 2023/24.
Improvements include signage, line marking, guardrails and tactile markers on the road centreline.
We were successful in gaining funding under the Australian Government’s Black Spot Programme to help carry out these improvements.
What to expect during construction
- An electronic traffic sign (VMS) will be installed a few weeks ahead of construction to advise that safety works are upcoming.
- Traffic control will be in place while the improvements are being done.
- The community will be notified ahead of any interruptions to road access.
