Consultation has concluded

The revised draft Outdoor Dining Council Policy aims to encourage the establishment of outdoor dining or outdoor restaurants wherever feasible and appropriate throughout the Local Government Area.

We're exhibiting the draft Outdoor Dining Council Policy for the community to provide comment.

Policy Background

The draft Policy aims to address a number of changes that have occurred in the outdoor dining space. These include changes to planning legislation, an increased emphasis on the use of these outdoor spaces along with an increased appreciation for the associated social and economic benefits of outdoor dining.

The draft Policy introduces five criteria when assessing outdoor dining applications:

1. Location/site suitability

2. Safety/Accessibility

3. Amenity

4. Function

5. Legal and compliance.

In addition to the review and exhibition of the Outdoor Dining Policy, Council will be investigating, and where possible, implementing streamlined processes available through NSW State Government initiatives. These include both the NSW Small Business Commissioner trial and the Streamlined Outdoor Dining Approvals process managed by the Office of Local Government. The aim of these are to streamline the application process for businesses wishing to apply for outdoor dining approvals.

You will find the draft Council Policy – Outdoor Dining on Public Land in the documents section of this site.
