Consultation has concluded
As part of our commitment to improve pedestrian safety, we are proposing a new Shared Zone in Wilson Street, Wollongong.
The purpose of a Shared Zone is to make a road space safe for both vehicles and pedestrians. The local community asked us to improve pedestrian safety in and around Wilson Street. The idea of Shared Zone was to reduce the speed of vehicles while providing pedestrian access and safety. In partnership with Transport NSW, we analysed traffic behaviours in Wilson Street and have designed a solution through the proposal of a Shared Zone.
Where are the changes being made?
The changes will run the entirety of Wilson Street, Wollongong.
What is being proposed?
The Shared Zone we are planning to deliver will prioritise the safety of pedestrians in Wilson Street. The key elements will include:
Set 10kmph speed zone throughout Wilson Street
Raised continuous footpath (Campbell Street / Wilson Street intersection)
Introduction of 4 speed humps
Signage indicating 10kmph speed zone and 'Give Way to Pedestrians'
Alternate parking to be both on the left and right side of the road
Asphalt surface treatment to road in a design chosen by the community
You can give us a call on 4227 7111 to speak with the Engagement Team, or email engagement@wollongong.nsw.gov.au and we will get back to you.
