Dapto and its surrounding suburbs have some of the lowest tree canopy cover in Wollongong and the local community has asked us to plant more trees.

We love this request as it’s in line with our Urban Greening Strategy – a plan to get more trees into the ground to provide more shade and cool down our streets and neighborhoods. It’s important to do this now, because with a hotter climate ahead, it will help our community into the future.

We invite residents from the suburbs below to join in to have a tree planted out the front or back of your place, on the Council strip.

  • Dapto (including Brownsville)
  • Horsley
  • Kanahooka
  • Koonawarra
  • Haywards Bay

Council crews will plant street trees from Autumn next year, the best time for young trees to grow and thrive.

Read the FAQs to found out more about how the street tree planting works and what to expect if you join in.
